Your unconscious thoughts are your fears on "Shuffle"
If your brain had a "Playlist of the Year" it would be ugly.
You know how at the end of the year some people share their Spotify Playlists of the most frequently listened to artists and songs with such pride? Then there is a whole other group who looks at it and would NEVER show you that shit. (Me, that’s me).
Your brain is mostly the latter kind of playlist. Left untended every time you try to do something new it basically serves your fears, insecurities, and a trauma response that kept you safe when you were 5, on shuffle. It will surprise you with how great its memory is.
You probably have a secret, not terribly cool, even problematic thing you listened to ad naseum when you were a kid. When it comes on now it might make you smile (blush?) and remember what it was like to dance alone in your room waiting for your life to start. But if that music came on relentlessly maybe you’d do something about it. It doesn’t suit you now. Our thoughts are the same.
Decide to be a little more aware of what you’re thinking and what you want to do about it. You don’t have to think what you used to think. You don’t have to take advice from a scared, younger you. It’s ok to sort your thoughts a bit as they come, replace them with more helpful thoughts you prefer, and even delete a few.
