You may have noticed I’m writing about permission in the entrepreneurial lens a lot lately. Here’s a couple of reasons why:
So many women are disconnecting from a world of work that doesn’t support them and beginning to create their own businesses.
It’s where I can help most with my experience.
There is such a tension point between knowing things the way they are in your work are actually hurting you and creating the money you need to exist outside of it. So many of us can’t just jump out of traditional work pay to start something for ourselves. And whether you are wanting to create your thing on the side while it gathers strength or you’ve jumped all the way in I want to support it.
I believe we cannot build a functional collectivism without teaching women how to also have personal sovereignty. Our role as whole individuals inside a group entity has been trained out of us for a few centuries and we need support claiming that shit back. I know I do.
We will not be able to play our role if we aren’t resourced and can’t say what we really want out loud (that’s different than getting everything you want) or we are not allowed (and know how) to decide what we want to try to create for our own lives and our communities. It has to be us. Not the church or the state or your partner or parents telling you where you fit, what to wear, and where your value comes from.
It won’t be a victory in this present moment if all we do is not steal everything from the marginalized in and around us. We need to keep going. We need to get to the spot where all of us are bringing our gifts into this world. I spent over 25 years growing businesses for wealthy men (some really good ones) but I want to point those skills in this direction now. I have picked my wedge of where my own experience and expertise can support making that happen now. Even when things are dark.
I speak directly to women usually because it’s my personal experience of the planet. But that’s not exclusive and I’m here for anyone who wants the type of support I’m writing about. But I will continue to write directly to women because it’s so important to me that we have places where we see ourselves. And to be clear this isn’t a TERF thing. I am on team Trans and LGBTQ+ inclusively. My belief in human rights doesn’t have exclusion clauses. I’m also here trying to unwind the colonial and racist teaching that were woven into me as being a white woman born in Canada. And I believe we are living in late stage capitalism and we need money to exist.
The world is a lot. And it won’t get any better if you and I aren’t doing our thing.
