If you are trying to build any sort of life outside of the way most of us were raised to participate in society it is not going to be easy. The un-restraining and re-training that is required to create something that holds an idea for doing good work that hurts neither your customer, the world, or you is not easy. To do that while making a living and thriving is a huge step change from what we were raised to believe was possible.
Yes that strategy for posting your social media to generate leads will work, many, many of them do. But none will work if you don’t allow that work to happen. The biggest, hardest work you will do while bringing your ideas into the world is the work inside you. The parts that figure out how to allow yourself to take the action you need to get where you want to go. Especially to allow yourself to make mistakes.
Whether you need to put in place marketing, sales, processes, or get support there will be triggers over and over that bubble up fear and freeze responses. It is not easy to face that. It is not always quick to turn from it. And figuring out how to deal with these responses without forcing/harming yourself is forging a whole new path in the world.
My favourite thing about what I do is holding the space for my clients to investigate why it’s so hard to choose action sometimes and then to watch them figure out how to support themselves regardless of the thoughts they uncover. Finding the joy in allowing themselves to experiment is such a gift.
One of my favourite lines I find myself repeating over and over is “It’s simple, but it’s not easy.” The tasks of experimenting with marketing or hiring an assistant are quite simple. And if experimentation and failure are simply data points and not connected to the value of what you do and the worth of who you are, they can be quick and exciting to get through. It’s ok if that’s not your story. We haven’t been very supported in creating ideas about ourselves that allow for testing of process without condemning of person. It’s ok if you have to learn that too. Effort does not preclude joy.
You have so much to give the world and you are allowed to experiment with how you want to tell people about it and deliver it. You get to try and you get to change your mind without it meaning anything about how valuable you are. It’s not something you have had much chance practicing. Be kind. Go as slowly as you need to go forward without harming yourself.
Have a great week,
Susie
