Until. It’s the most dangerous word. It masquerades as strategy and a plan, but it’s stickier that cotton candy when you don’t have washcloth handy.
If you start to notice ‘until’ sticking around it’s probably an excuse. An excuse to let perfectionism stop you from taking the action you need to actually find out whether or not you are going in the right direction of your desires. (And congratulations for knowing what you want! Huge first step!) But we can stop all progress and momentum when we inundate ourselves with “until I have a perfect website" or “until I have 10,000 followers” or whatever creative excuse your brain wants to make up, until this thing happens then I cannot… None of it is happening in the present moment. Try changing until into the next action you will take.
Imagine you are lost in a city you don’t know. You are paused because you don’t know which direction is the right one to get you where you want to go. If you said to yourself “I can’t move until I know it’s right,” you will be standing there quite some time. The only thing that gets you going again is an action. Check the map on your phone. Ask someone for help. Call someone. All these things are the little actions that will get you moving towards your destination again. And you might have to take several of them to ultimately be successful.
So distrust and investigate every ‘until’ your thoughts throw at you. Watch for the ones that are severing as a clever block to stop you taking action.
