Why do we even need to give ourself permission? What event requires you to make the decision to take action in the first place? It’s a response to the thought that you aren’t allowed that action.
You aren’t allowed to make art because it might be bad.
You aren’t allowed to market your business because that is cringe.
You aren’t allowed to enjoy your body because there is something bad about it.
There are two kinds of not allowed. There are the actual legal rules or agreed rules for a particular space or activity. The decision with this type is whether you are going to take part in these spaces or work to change the rules you don’t agree with.
The other type of not allowed is the one that exists only in yourself. These are the thoughts that make you smaller than you have the inspiration to be. This is where fear has the mic and is blasting at you to prevent you experiencing loss, rejection or failure. I’m not going to tell you that loss, rejection or failure is wonderful. They aren't. They are horrible. Fear is right to warn you and prepare you. But fear can also demand that you be less of yourself, to put less of yourself in the world to avoid those experiences and you can’t. The only difference in the way you will experience rejection or failure is whether you cause them yourself. And that’s unbearable.

Don’t let fear’s voice rob us of the experience of the farther edges of you. Each time you reach outwards further into your most inspiring idea of yourself, regardless of the outcome, YOU becomes more established and resilient. Each time you pull yourself back to the narrow bit of you that overlaps with some idea of a societal norm life becomes more precarious. Don’t let fear limit you for certain, versus taking a chance on the world knowing that you can handle what comes.
Here’s to more of the wonder of you.
