When you put your dreams and art and services out into the world you will inevitably hear “Is it any good?” It’s natural for people to try and use information they have and social norms to try and predict if they’ll want something. It’s ok to think about this and decide your own opinion about your work.
Believing in your own work is all that is required to answer any question. It doesn’t mean you won’t change and learn or make mistakes. It means you will not hide if someone questions it for reasons of their own.
Believing in your work means you are happy to let others pass on it because you know that it will find its home to be treasured by a single person or a million however that shakes out. Your responsibility to yourself is to make it.
Here’s something I get all the time and how I answer it.
Why is your audio course so cheap? Is it really any good?
We have such a messed up relationship to value at the moment. Only if it’s super expensive and NOT available to everyone could it be the best. Sometimes things are expensive and that’s not wrong. There is knowledge and skill and short cuts and toll roads that are entirely worth it. And, also everything doesn’t have to be that way.
I created How to Give Yourself Permission because I really wanted to help. I didn’t want to be a coach or a therapist (way too opinionated for that), but I’ve always wanted to help people achieve their dreams. In all stages of my career I could spot the spark in people (that may or may not have had anything to do with their day job). And I always made it my business to encourage and support them while they tried to make it a reality. Sometimes it was in a moment of conversation. Sometimes I encouraged just by asking about it frequently or talking it into a vision with them. Sometimes people hired me to help make it happen.
After I wrote A Little Book of Permission, which is the playful list of things you don’t have to do, I realised it was a step in the process of deciding to take action towards what you want. An important step that so many of us need of decoupling from obligation and easing the burden, even in our own minds, of what we are required to do before we get to do what we dream.
How to Give Yourself Permission encompasses all the steps (and obstacles) in how to take action towards your dream—to bring into the world that spark in you that only you can give. And I really want it to reach as many people as it could help and support. That’s why it’s $25 and not $2500. That’s the only reason.
You can buy it here.
And if you don’t have $25 right now send me a message and I’ll make sure you get access. You’ll pay me back when and if you can. I believe in you and the value of your spark in the world and I know it doesn’t have anything to do with your access to cash today.
Want to gift the course to others? Drop me a note and we’ll get you set up to sprinkle it around your world too.
Have a listen and go do your thing.
