What does the caterpillar know about what happens once they build the cocoon? Do they know their cozy spot will see them literally melt into goo before becoming something else? Are there some caterpillars that are afraid to fly and when they emerge as butterflies are they completely petrified at what they’ve become? Is it their dream of flying that builds them wings?
What does the universe want of my goo?
Being part of great change both within ourselves and the world is unsettling and sometimes terrifying. We can know with the strongest, clearest, must-be-heeded understanding that we can no longer be what we’ve been, and still feel frightened by the actual process of transformation. The fear can be particularly strong after you’ve had the courage to start. Of course people avoid doing this! It’s a lot.
Giving yourself permission to stay in the present moments of your life is sometimes the most difficult thing to ask of yourself. I don’t know what the caterpillar feels as it changes its skin for wings. If it understands what is ahead. That after a life of climbing up a single flower, it might become a creature that flies thousands of miles in its life quest.
But I know wishing and worrying about what is next can pull you out of the moment in your mind, but they don’t change the fact that right now you are goo and the outcome is not yet determined. What if the goo period is the time to be the unstructured, undiluted essence of you unattached to the doing? The moments where no matter what you do next, you revel in what you are and take stock of the lovely building blocks of you, your life, your love, and the gifts you can put into the world. And maybe it’s the recognition in the value of what you are as goo, without structure or context, that allows you to re-form into your future.
So my darling seeker do not skip the opportunity to be goo.
