Do you find yourself on the edge of something you want, but just can't bridge the gap?
The gulf between HERE and THERE is not the tasks. It's the permission to start.
Where do you find yourself on the edge of something you want?
The gulf between HERE and THERE is not the tasks. It’s the permission to start.
A lot of us can be very clear about where we want to go. There’s a definite “I’m here at A and I would like to be at B.” For others it’s a vision of “Anywhere but here.” And for more it’s simply a concept of “There.” I want to be there because once I get there I know I will feel _____.
No matter the destination, they all have one thing in common: the decision to actually try to get there. I promise there are courses and programs out there to help you learn what you need. There are so many wonderful things and people who you can help you learn to be an opera singer or start a permaculture farm or open your own firm or travel around the world on a budget. The details on how to execute your dream are there.
What we are most often missing is the safety of being able to make the decision to try. To decide that you deserve to try. That you are allowed to try. The act of sovereignty that it is your decision alone whether you start. When I coach women in their businesses this one comes up over and over. I can lay out every single step and unless my client is ready to give herself permission to do it, we can’t get there.
It really helps to understand that this pause on the edge is a real moment. You’re not doing anything wrong because you haven’t just started yet. Notice yourself next time you find yourself perched there. Before your brain takes off towards fear and worry and futility. Remember that you need to feel safe to start. Be curious about why you don’t and remind that part that you’re grown up now, or it’s different, that you have the skills to navigate anything, and that this is in fact your dream and you want it.
