Food for your inner rebel.
Let's hack our unhealed warrior trauma and get on with making our things.
I kind of want to do a whole series telling us what we can’t do so our inner rebels have something to push back against. And then we could get all fired up and would all get on with doing the the things we long to achieve. Not the expected ones, but the secret heart things we want to do.
We don’t talk much as a society about what happens when you’ve been trained to fight for everything. For many this is conditioned as the only way to get or do things. It’s particularly present in marginalized communities, the economically struggling classes, and the humans who have been conscripted to be literal weapons of war. We glorify the struggle and fight and never teach each other how to take action in peace. The trauma from it is real (in obviously in very differing amounts). And while we are working to heal and create new ways of taking action, there are many insidious ways that warrior conditioning creeps in and stifles our dreams for ourselves and the world.
So if you need something to push against sometimes, it’s ok. Be kind to yourself. Understand what’s happening and feel free to ironically find what you need to fight in order to start. I’ve given you a few to spark your inner I’ll show her:
Who are you to make that thing you have bought all the materials for? Please sit and stare at them for three more years. It’s really not for you.
You can’t care for yourself and people you love and be an artist. All the great artists in history have really just chewed up and extracted care from their muses, wives, families, etc. You are doing it wrong.
You aren’t allowed to write your book and add to the beauty of the world. Please go back to your cog-in-the-machine position of extraction and maybe find time on your weekends or at 4:30 am.
Women are excluded from having personal wealth, sorry. Please only give yours away in a manner that does not include your own stability.
Come on after the Barbie Movie do we really need to hear anything else women have to say? There are already so many screenplays out there. Adding yours to the pile is irresponsible. Consider the paper!
Got any to add? Put them in the comments.
We are working so hard to learn how to do things in peace. We must learn that. And also we really need you to bring what you can into the world now. It’s time.
