A meaningful life is not for the faint of heart.
But despite the pressure otherwise, you get to choose.
Trying to build, step by step, a life that is meaningful to you is not for the faint of heart. It’s so much easier to follow the flow of what has been constructed to be normal or expected or successful. But I’ve always found that comes with a large dose of swallowing at least some despair. Some people are really lucky and the things that are considered normal/expected/successful are the very things they would choose to do. But not everyone feels that way.
No one will ever lament the secret desires of your heart but you. I write these posts to remind you that you don’t have to swallow the despair of undone things. I want you to know that it is possible to make the decision to act on your dream. It might mean writing your novel in a basement and not in the future-perfect idea of a quiet mountain retreat. Although if that’s critical to you, act towards that too. The key lies in giving ourselves permission to try.
We can surprise ourselves with how much a life can hold of our dreams despite the messy conditions or, we can dismay ourselves with how much we’ve never done.
